Last week Samsung released One UI 6 beta for the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, now the older foldables are getting their first taste of Android 14 too – Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 units in South Korea are seeing the beta firmware. Surprisingly, the Galaxy F23 mid-ranger is joining them.
One UI 6 brings a redesigned Quick Panel, plus AI features for the Gallery – Photo Remaster and Object Eraser and more. Additionally, Samsung Studio is a new multi-layer video editor that can add text, stickers and music to your clips. There are new camera widgets too, which can be configured to launch the camera app in a specific mode (e.g. front or back camera, photo or video mode, pro mode, night mode, etc.).
One UI 6 beta arrives on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4
Version 6 also features some changes to multitasking. When you have a pop-up window open and go to Recent apps, the window is no longer minimized so you can continue using it after you return. You can now also drag and drop things on the homescreen with two hands – one hand holds the icon or widget, the other hand scrolls to the desired homescreen pane. This makes moving things around much easier on the large internal display of the Folds.
There’s no word on when One UI 6 beta will be available for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 outside of Korea. The Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 updates rolled out only in the US and India, so Samsung is taking things slowly.
As for the Galaxy F23, this is a version of the Galaxy M23 sold in India – both have very nearly identical hardware and launched with Android 12. The F23 received Android 13 in December of last year. This suggests that the update for the M23 version shouldn’t be far behind, but we haven’t heard anything yet.
Samsung Galaxy F23 also receiving One UI 6 beta
While you wait, you should install the Samsung Members app as you will need it to apply for the One UI Beta Program. Once the beta is available in your region, the app should show a notification. Of course, it may be wiser to skip the beta altogether and just wait for the stable release.
